JLC and Varsity are Teaming Up for St. Jude!

I'm excited to announce an optional opportunity for Junior Lancer Cheerleaders to help make a difference by joining Varsity and teaming up with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to support its life-saving mission of finding cures for children fighting cancer and other catastrophic illnesses.  JLC and Varsity want to help St. Jude kids have victory over pediatric cancer, and we need your help to make it happen.

How You Can Help

We are asking each Junior Lancer Cheerleader to help spread the word about this great cause by sending five letters to friends and family, asking them to make a donation to St. Jude - that's it!

How to Get Started

Print out this letter, make five copies, complete the "Donor's Name and Address" and "Participant's Information" on the bottom portion of the letter, and bring the completed letters to camp with you to the 1st Annual JLC YUCA Cheer Camp on July 8th.  If you aren't attending camp, drop off your completed letters to Coach Uhrle by July 7th.  Please do not fold the letters and do not put them in envelopes.  Read this post if you need help printing out the letter.

Cheerleaders and coaches that bring in at least five letters will be awarded a special Team Up for St. Jude pin, and will be allowed to wear it with their uniform to all non-competition JLC events for the 2011 - 2012 season.  Pin trading is a popular pasttime among cheerleaders that attend Varsity cheer camps.  The Team Up for St. Jude is a great way to start your collection!

St. Jude and Varsity will let us know how much JLC raises for St. Jude with our letter writing campaign, and we'll announce our final results later this fall.

St. Jude is a place like no other. Here’s why you should join them in making a difference:
  • St. Jude is one of the world’s premier centers for research and treatment of pediatric cancer.
  • St. Jude treats children from across the U.S. and from all around the world.
  • All research discoveries made at St. Jude are freely shared with the global medical community.
  • No child is ever turned away because of a family’s inability to pay, and families without insurance never receive a bill for treatment.
  • It costs more than $1.6 million per day to operate St. Jude, and that comes primarily from donations and the support of groups like JLC and the Varsity Spirit Groups.
  • You can also watch this video to learn more about St. Jude.
Teaming Up with St. Jude is an optional JLC community service project, and it's each cheerleader's choice to participate. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Coach Uhrle.
