Saturday, August 6th
Lancer Nation Media Day & JLC Photo Day
  • 9:30 AM: Meet in BCHS New Gym Lobby.  Coaches and Team Managers will be on hand to correct uniform, hair and make-up violations before we head outside to the photo shoot.
  • 10:00 AM:  Lancer Nation - Family All In Photo.  This year's BC Football theme is "Family All In", and this photo is going to be a wonderful representation of the Lancer Nation Family. All football players in grades 5 - 12, cheerleaders from grades 2 - 12, and the Lancerettes will be in this photo.  You'll likely see this photo displayed in various establishments around town (many of the stores in Ruby Isle, Jersey Mike's subs, Metro Market, etc). It will also be available for purchase.
  • 10:30 - 11:45 AM BREAK.  No JLC supervision will be provided.
  • 11:45 AM:  Meet in BCHS New Gym Lobby.  Coaches and Team Managers will be on hand to correct uniform, hair and make-up violations before we head outside to the photo shoot.
  • Noon:  JLC Organization Photo - All cheerleaders and adult coaches, followed by Team Photos (2nd - 4th grade, 5th & 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade) and Individual Photos.
  • Once your daughter has had her individual photo taken by the official photographer, she will then have her individual photo taken once again by a JLC mom or dad for photo buttons and our website.  Please don't order photo buttons from Empire Photography - order them from JLC instead! :)  Photo buttons are worn by parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc to cheer competitions to support your favorite cheerleader. Proceeds earned from the JLC photo button sale will offset our end of the season awards banquet.
  • Once your daughter has had her individual photo taken by a JLC mom or dad, she is done, and can leave.
  • What to wear:  FULL JLC UNIFORM - shell, skirt, bodyliner, briefs, cheer shoes with no-show white socks and white shoelaces.  Girls can choose to have their hair up in a high ponytail with the cheer bow facing back or hair half-up/half-down with cheer bow in back.  All hair must be pulled away from the face in either option.  Girls with feather hair extensions must be sure they do not appear in the photo. Bring your poms!
  • Please adhere to the jewelry and make-up policy posted here
  • Inform your daughters that it will likely be very warm on photo day, especially wearing the full uniform with bodyliner.  If they focus and pay attention, we'll be done in record time, and they'll be able to go home to cool down :)  Have them bring water bottles to hydrate themselves during the photo shoot.
  • Two - three cheer moms or dads are requested to assist with taking individual photos of the cheerleaders for our photo buttons.  Please email me if you're interested!

2nd Installment Reminder
  • The 2nd installment in the amount of $125 was due on July 20th, and is now past due.  Please remit payment immediately, if you haven't already done so.
  • As a reminder, JLC does not permit any cheerleader whose account is past due to participate in any JLC event.
  • Please contact me if you have any issues or concerns.  Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

NEW JLC Concussion Policy
  • Safety is the cornerstone of the JLC program, and the JLC Coaches and I have done and will do everything possible to keep your daughters safe by ensuring our environment and equipment is safe, teaching proper progressions to our cheerleaders, and educating ourselves in proper cheer safety protocol.  Unfortunately, even then, there may be times were accidents and injuries occur.
  • Effective immediately, any time a cheerleader experiences a bump or blow to the head - no matter how minor - her parents will be called, and the cheerleader will sit out of practice or the event, until their parent advises JLC how to proceed.  The reason for calling parents any time a head injury occurs is that the majority of concussions occur without a loss of consciousness.  If a cheerleader loses consciousness for any period of time, 911 will be called immediately, then the parents will be notified.  Cheerleaders that sustain a bump or blow to the head will be allowed to return to JLC activities with a signed release form from a health care professional, experienced in evaluating for concussion, saying they are symptom-free and it’s OK to return to play.
  • It is not my intent to frighten or alarm you, but to educate you.  Many of our children are in multiple sports, and recognition and proper response to concussions when they first occur can help prevent further injury or even death.  I have the unfortunate experience of being a parent of an athlete that sustained a serious concussion last year, and is currently concussed.  They're scary and I wouldn't want to wish any parent or athlete to go through what my son and I have gone through.  My son's current concussion was diagnosed quickly thanks to two of his buddies who recognized the symptoms and helped him get to the athletic trainer right away.
  • The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have teamed up to provide information and resources to help educate coaches, officials, parents and students on the importance of proper concussion recognition and management in youth and high school sports.  I strongly urge all JLC parents to take a FREE online course, "Concussions in Sports - What You Need to Know."  For more information, please visit http://www.nfhslearn.com/ click "Courses", and select the Concussion course.
  • If your daughter has previously sustained a concussion, please email me so I can make a notation on her medical information form.
  • Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Community Service Opportunity for 7th & 8th Graders
  • JLC will host an information table at WHMS Registration Day on Wednesday, August 10th.  There are two shifts available - 9am to noon and 5 -7pm.
  • I am looking for 1 cheerleader to help with the morning shift and 2 cheerleaders to help with the evening shift.  The girls will be answering questions, passing out flyers, and generating interest in JLC.
  • The girls should wear "nice" clothes, i.e., what they plan to wear for their school photo.
  • Email me if you're interested in helping out!

Quote of the Week

"The most important lesson I've learned from sports is how to not only be a gracious winner, but a good loser as well.  Not everyone wins all the time; as a matter of fact, no one wins all the time.  Winning is the easy part, losing is really tough.  But, you learn more from one loss than you do from a million wins.  You learn a lot about sportsmanship.  I mean, it's really tough to shake the hand of someone who just beat you, and it's even harder to do it with a smile.  If you can learn to do this and push through that pain, you will remember what that moment is like the next time you win and have a better sense of how those other competitors around you feel.  This experience will teach you a lot on and off the field!" ~ Amy Van Dyken, Olympic Gold Medal Winner in swimming
