Weekly Newsletter: May 2012, Vol 5


Registration Ongoing Now!
  • Please view important information here and download the registration packet here.  
  • First 30 athletes with paid registrations will be invited to attend a UCA Cheer Clinic on Saturday, June 2nd with us at no charge!  All others can come to camp for a small fee.
  • Check the Teams page to see if your friends have registered for JLC - names will be added as paid registrations are received!
  • Registrations will be accepted through July 25th!

Team Tumbling at Heat Athletics
  • Beginner: 5 - 6pm
  • Intermediate: 6 - 7pm
  • It's not too late to sign up for our team tumbling class!  Visit the Tumbling Classes page for more information!  You must be a 2012 - 2013 registered Junior Lancer Cheerleader to sign up for our team tumbling classes. 

Saturday, June 2nd
UCA Cheer Camp
  • TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION
    • We are chartering a bus to get us to/from Brookfield Central High School and Lake Geneva. The bus will cost $10 per athlete.  
    • All athletes must arrive at 11:20am on June 2nd near the main BCHS entrance.  The bus will depart promptly at 11:30, and we cannot wait for anyone that is running late.  We will depart Lake Geneva at approximately 5:15pm, and return to BCHS by 6:15 - 6:30pm.  I will instruct the girls to send their parents a text message when we're about 10 minutes away from BCHS on our return.

    WHAT TO WEAR
    • Red spiritwear tshirt (I have a few extra tshirts in adult sizes if you didn't order one in the original spiritwear order, just let Coach know if you need one).  If you don't have a red spiritwear tshirt, please wear a red tshirt.
    • Comfortable shorts (no jeans or long pants, think Soffee brand of shorts)
    • Hair up in a high ponytail with any cheer bow (if you don't own a cheer bow, contact Coach asap)
    • Cheer shoes (or any closed toe athletic shoe if you don't have cheer shoes yet)
    • NO JEWELRY (remove earrings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets, etc).
    • Please apply sunscreen to your athlete before you drop her off.

    WHAT TO BRING
    • Water bottles (very important - it will be hot!)  You may want to freeze one, and bring a "normal" one - this way the frozen one will be a nice treat for the bus ride home.
    • Healthy snacks or even a packed lunch (for the bus ride)
    • Sunscreen
    • UCA Waiver.  Be sure to complete the waiver in it's entirety.  Every field must be completed!  Waivers will be collected as the girls get on the bus.  Cheerleaders will not be permitted to get on the bus without a completed waiver!
    • $10 check payable to Junior Lancer Cheer for the bus.

    WHAT TO EXPECT AT CAMP
    • This camp will be attended by over 400 cheerleaders from across the region.
    • The athletes will start in the field house and play games, learn cheer motions and jumps.
    • We then break into large groups (our organization will be together the entire time) to learn the extreme routine dance and cheer (indoors) then move outdoors for stunting.  Stunt groups will be formed within each JLC squad (Blue, White and Silver) as much as possible.
    • With the assistance of the UCA instructors, the girls will then put together what they've learned into a routine, and perform it in front of a panel of judges and the other cheer teams.  Ribbons will be awarded to each team - they are NOT ribbons indicative of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.  
    • For this one camp, as it is being run by the UCA, the girls will stunt on the basketball floor without a mat for their performance.  If you do not wish for your daughter to stunt without a mat, please let me know.  At all other JLC events, stunting will only occur on a hard surface if appropriate mats are available.
    • It will be HOT - please be sure to apply sunscreen and bring water!
    • Be sure to "Like Us" on Facebook (www.facebook.com/juniorlancercheer) as Coach will be posting photos to our Facebook page throughout our time at camp.

    CALL TO ACTION
    • Please RSVP your daughter's attendance to the camp.  

    This will be a GREAT event, and the girls will have a lot of fun meeting their new teammates and working together for the very first time this season to earn their first award ribbon for their performance at camp!

Uniform Re-Sale - Calling all Sellers!!
June 16, 2012
  • Download the seller instructions and inventory form for more detailed information.
  • We will accept the shell, skirt, bodyliner, briefs, poms and shoes (2011 style only - not the ones with the blue insert or the blue stripes).  All items must be in good condition, with no rips, stains or tears.  All pieces must be freshly laundered and/or cleaned including the shoes.  Saddle soap or Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser works wonders on the white leather cheer shoes.  
  • If you'd like to sell your items, please drop them off at Coach Uhrle's house by Thursday, June 14th, so I can inventory and tag them prior to the re-sale.  You don't need to bring the items on hangers - all items folded neatly into a plastic bag is fine.  Please complete and include the inventory form and a self-address-stamped-envelope with your items.
  • The suggested asking prices per items are as follows: Shell $30 - $40, Skirt $20 - $30, Nylon bodyliner (2010 style) $5 - $10, Microflex bodyliner (2011 style) $15 - $20, Briefs $5 - $10, Shoes $20 - $35, and Poms $10 - $15
  • At the sale, buyers will write checks payable directly to each seller, and I will mail them to sellers on Monday, June 18th.  I will hold onto any unsold items should anyone need to purchase a uniform piece during the season, unless you instruct me otherwise.
Choreography
July 29th, August 4th, 5th and 10th
  • We are still confirming exact times for each team's choreography.  As a reminder, choreography is mandatory for all team members to attend.
  • To give you an idea of times, you can expect July 29th choreography to be scheduled any time between 11am and 9pm; August 4th choreography to be scheduled between 9am and 9pm; August 5th choreography to be scheduled between 11am and 9:30pm; and August 10th to be scheduled between 5 - 7pm.
  • We will do our best to set-up carpools for choreography, and will begin coordination once the exact choreography times have been determined.

Upcoming Events ...


Monday, June 11th
Practice Begins!
  • Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 - 7pm at Mitchell Park near the lodge and fireworks hill.  Athletes should arrive at 5:20pm to give them a few minutes to put their things together and ensure they are ready to start promptly at 5:30pm.  Athletes that arrive will late run extra laps!!
  • There is no adult supervision prior to 5:20pm and after 7:10pm. 
  • Girls should wear modest tshirts and shorts (no jeans or denim shorts), cheer shoes, hair up in a high, straight ponytail, and NO jewelry whatsoever.  Please apply sunscreen and bug spray before you arrive.  
  • Girls should bring a water bottle, bug spray, and a towel to sit/lie down on for stretching and conditioning.
  • Always email absences within 24 hours to Coach so we can plan practices accordingly.

Saturday, June 16th
Uniform Re-Sale
  • 10am - Noon at Coach Uhrle's house
  • Come by to purchase a gently used uniform, cheer shoes or poms!  All items are sold as-is, and there is no negotiating of prices.
  • Bring your checkbook - checks are payable directly to the seller.
  • Practice cheer bows and assorted cheer gear will also be available for sale.

June 18th - 22nd
Cheer Shoe Fitting
  • All cheerleaders wishing to purchase new cheer shoes for the upcoming season will need to go to Heat Athletics between 4 - 8pm this week to get fitted and order their cheer shoes.  Payment in full is required at the time of the order.  Preferred method of payment is via personal check. 
  • Incoming 3rd - 5th grade cheerleaders are recommended to purchase the "Game Day" cheer shoe.  Incoming 6th - 8th grade cheerleaders are recommended to purchase the "Evolution" cheer shoe.
  • Coach Uhrle will pick up and deliver the cheer shoes at a practice once they have arrived.  All cheerleaders MUST own cheer shoes by our choreography days.
