Competitive Team - Camp Follow Up

JLC's competitive team attended UCA Summer Camp in the Dells last week, and they did an exceptional job representing the Lancer Nation!  This was our first overnight camp experience as a program, and for a few of our cheerleaders, it was their first time away from home.  Over 800 cheerleaders from 5 states attended this camp, and it was the largest UCA summer camp held in the Midwest.  One quarter of the team are brand new cheerleaders this year, and each stunt group had someone new to cheerleading or to a specific stunt role.  The material was taught at a fast and furious pace which was overwhelming at times, but the team persevered and did a wonderful job.

Here are a few highlights of the team's success:

  • Three Blue Superior Ribbons (the highest honor you can receive at camp) for their Stunt Sequence, Extreme Routine, and Full Routine evaluations.  The team spent less than 1.5 hours total learning each section from beginning to end!
  • They were awarded the "Most Improved" trophy out of all teams attending the Stunt Performance Camp.
  • They were 2nd Place Camp Champs for their Extreme Routine.  They had to perform their full routine in front of all teams, coaches, parents and UCA staff at the stunt performance camp, and compete it against all Freshman and under teams at camp.
  • 8th Grader and 4 year JLC veteran Mia was named to the 2015 UCA All American Team.
  • 5th Grader and 2 year JLC veteran Kierra was selected as a "Pin It Forward" recipient by the Jaguar cheer team from Minnesota for being a positive, all around team member.
  • Special commendations were given to Molly and Meghan for their front walkover round off back handsprings, and to the entire team for their synchronized jump sequence.  The team was also commended by multiple UCA staffers for being the cleanest, tightest middle school team the staff has ever worked with.  Many of the staffers have been doing this for 10+ years, so this was a high compliment indeed!
  • Our team received many compliments from the UCA staff, other coaches, other cheerleaders, and resort staff, for their respectfulness, kindness, hard work, and attention to detail.  This is what I am most proud of as a coach!
